HATS OFF, ANJU AND ABHAY!!
Dear Anjali and Abhay,
You are celebrating the Upanayanam of your daughter, Archis, on 5th September 2010.
In ancient vedic days, it is said, this ceremony used to be performed for both girls and boys.
The Hindu culture has radically changed since then and now mostly, only boys, and that too Brahmin boys, are allowed to perform this ceremony.
The Upanayanam marks the stage when the boys begin their formal education. But now, with girls outshining boys in almost every field, denying this ceremony to them has absolutely no meaning.
So, with this symbolic gesture, you are returning all the rights of equality to women. Celebrate it with pride; and let this example be followed by all the parents of girls in India, caste and creed not withstanding!
And how appropriate it is to get this ceremony performed on the Teachers’ Day (5th September) and by a lady priest!!
Bravo, you two.
And Archis:
Let this initiation in the World of Knowledge make you an able and intelligent Brahmavadin!

Hi Dada, I had seen the UPANAYAN write up long back but am posting a comment now when I am revisiting your blog after a long time.... Thanks for your profound words and wishes to Archis. I hope she will better understand them when she grows a bit more.:)) Anju
Hi APK
Congrats on the Blog, to which I just received the link. As usual you are the trendsetter amongst our friends. I also liked the idea of appreciating Abhay for his actions in a PUBLIC / SEMI PUBLIC BLOG. I am sure Abhay appreciates this gesture very much.
Abhay & Anju
Nice to read you peformed the UPANAYAN for Archis. Dnyana Prabodhinin has been propogating this concept in recent years. They are probably the most progressive organisation in such matters and that too after a lot of research. No doubt they advocate performing the UPANAYAN in 8th std instead of 8 years of age mainly because by then the children understand much more and its significance can be explained to them.
I am a great fan of Dnyana Prabodhini lady priests who have performed all rituals and cerermonies in our house since beginning 1978. The function leaves us with a feeling of contentment and satisfaction.
FINALLY .... APK keep blogging.
Regards
Atul Thakar
